Tecoma stans (Esperanza, Orange)

Esperanza, Orange

Tecoma stans

Discontinued

Popular perennial shrub native to Texas and Mexico. Green leaves are contrasted nicely with groups of orange trumpet shaped flowers on new seasonal growth from spring to fall. Esperanza is a tough and hardy plant ideal for any Texas landscape, as long as it's planted in well-drained soils.

Pruning will help the plant maintain a thick desirable exposition as the large branches can start to fall to the sides under its own weight. Prune all dead growth after the first frost; good mulching will allow roots to survive and Esperanza will easily return in the spring if the freezing temperatures were short and light.
