Aucuba, Gold Dust
Aucuba japonica 'Variegata'
Discontinued
Slow to moderate growing evergreen shrub with an upright but irregular growth habit; native to the Himalayas and Japan.
The main appeal of this plant is the striking variegated foliage, coupled with the ability to grow in full shade. Aucuba requires moist, well drained soil. It can tolerate morning sun, but will die under afternoon sun. Great for massings under trees. Leaves are ovate or oblong, and up to 7 inches long.
Poor growing conditions will make the plant susceptible to leaf fungus, the leading problem with Japanese Aucuba.
