Sherwood Abelia is a cultivar from Abelia x grandiflora that only reaches three feet tall and wide. It is a medium fast grower best utilized as a small hedge, requiring pruning only once a year. New leaves start out purple and turn green with age.

White blooms begin to appear in the late spring and persist into the fall, but only appear on new growth. Although regular pruning isn’t needed to maintain its size, pruning in the winter will promote more blooms with all the new growth. Grow in full sun for the best show of flowers; it will still bloom but not as prolifically when grown in part shade. Butterflies are easily attracted to the flowers.

Sherwood Abelia has very few pest problems, and does appreciate fertilizer in the late winter.
